As a matter of interest, the ceremonial first pitch on opening day this season was thrown by Elrod's son, Ian Hendricks, while wearing his father's no. 44 jersey. |

 | I'm not sure how this fits into the humor category but the Orioles are wearing the #44 patch in honor of Elrod Hendricks. Ellie spent almost his entire career with the Orioles as a catcher on their active roster and then as bullpen catcher. He did do a very brief stint with the Yankees in the mid 70's but then went right back to Baltimore. He passed away recently. |
